Saigon Phantom's Undefeated Rise and ANTGAMER's Mysterious Fall: A Deep Analysis of VMC Fall 2026 Group Stage

September 27, Saigon. As the final match scoreboard froze in an online broadcast studio in Ho Chi Minh City, only one name was floating in the chat — Saigon Phantom. The defending champions' group stage record was flawless, undefeated. But looking at the scoreboard, another score caught the eye, one that instantly changed the story of the entire tournament — ANTGAMER, 0-10. The Spring Split runner-up ended the Fall Split losing every single match. This is not just a statistic, but a crack within an entire system. When I look at the Vietnamese Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) ecosystem, I am reminded of the night of the 2026 World Cup final between France and Croatia. That night too, one team was unstoppable, and the other was beyond expectations. But the difference here is that the VMC Fall 2026 group stage has concluded, and an unknown fear is knocking on the door of the playoffs.

Visa VMC (Vietnam MLBB Championship) is essentially Vietnam's national league, which leads to the M8 World Championship through the MLBB Championship Tour SEA. Ten teams participated in this tournament, playing a round-robin format in the group stage. After the group stage concluded, the top-4 teams advanced to the playoffs, where the semifinals will be Best-of-5 (Bo5), and the Grand Final will be Best-of-7 (Bo7), held as an on-site LAN event at AEON Mall Tân Phú Celadon on October 17. This format is a tough test for the teams, as longer series test not only strategic skill but also mental fitness and deep roster depth.

Saigon Phantom's success is not dependent on a single star, but is the result of a balanced strategic reinforcement. Despite being champions last season, they kept their core roster and added a new star to the mid-lane, Hehehehehehe (Lâm Văn Đạt). In the group stage, this new signing won 3 MVP awards, proving that the team did not just rely on experience, but was able to adapt to the new meta or patch. On the other hand, another star of the team, Joww, won 4 MVPs, tying for the tournament lead. The synergy between these two has turned Saigon Phantom into a dual threat, which is the main reason for their undefeated run.

But the biggest story of this group stage may not be Saigon Phantom's flawless record, but rather ANTGAMER's mysterious fall. Despite being the Spring Split runner-up, they were eliminated this split with a 0-10 record. This is a massive anomaly. Going from an all-female roster to runner-up, and then losing every match the next split — there must be a deeper reason behind this, which was not mentioned in this report. It could be a roster change, internal conflict, or a governance issue. This uncertainty is a risk signal not just for one team, but for the entire league.

On the other hand, newcomer team Noob Team secured second place in the group stage with a 6-4 record in their first VMC. This result is undeniably surprising, but a caveat applies here as well. A 6-4 record means they won 6 out of 10 matches and lost 4. If the competition in the mid-table is tough, this result might actually be a reflection of the table's difficulty, rather than just an extraordinary performance by one team. In particular, teams like Sweet Revenge, who almost completely reset their roster and achieved a 4-6 record, missed the playoffs by one point. So before getting too excited about Noob Team's second place, their performance in the semifinals needs to be seen.

Tranquillizer's VisethNB, who is a player from Laos, leads the tournament with 4 MVPs. This is a significant cultural and competitive signal. A Lao talent performing at the top in Vietnam's league indicates that the Vietnamese MLBB ecosystem is increasingly becoming a regional talent hub. However, an unresolved question remains here — what rules apply to foreign players in VMC? Without an answer to this question, treating VisethNB's MVP achievement as a definitive success would be insufficient.

From a structural perspective of the VMC Fall 2026 group stage, a major change can be observed. The champion team will win 250 million Vietnamese Dong (approximately equivalent to 10,000 USD), but an even bigger prize is the opportunity to represent Vietnam in the MLBB Championship Tour SEA. This slot can lead directly to the M8 World Championship. Therefore, the real value of this tournament is not in the cash prize, but in the opportunity to represent Vietnam on the international stage. This is why experienced teams like Saigon Phantom prioritize this event.

From an international perspective, Vietnam is a mid-tier region in MLBB. The Philippines and Indonesia have historically dominated MLBB, but Vietnam is increasingly emerging as a strong competitor. Through leagues like VMC, Vietnam is building its talent pool and academy system. But a big question remains — can an undefeated domestic champion team hold its own against powerhouses like the Philippines or Indonesia on the international stage? The answer will only be found in their performance in the SEA Tour.

When I was covering the MLBB World Championship from an empty stadium in 2026, I learned that silence and absence can also be powerful storytelling elements. ANTGAMER's mysterious fall is exactly such a silent story, which has not yet been fully told. Their 0-10 record is not just a statistic, but the story of an entire team collapsing. Such stories are important both for the league's balance and for audience interest.

The organizing committee of VMC Fall 2026 has done an excellent job in completing the group stage. All 10 teams played the full 10 rounds, and no team withdrew mid-way. This is a good signal of the tournament's operational health. An international sponsor like Visa being the title sponsor of the tournament, and hosting the final at a mall venue — these two things indicate the growing mainstream acceptance of Vietnam's esports ecosystem.

The main risk before the playoffs is the single-elimination Bo5 format. With no double-elimination, a bad day means a team's tournament is over. Especially for Noob Team, who have reached this stage for the first time, the risk of a bad day is much higher.

The group stage results have confirmed Saigon Phantom's dominance, but the real story has not yet been written. The playoffs and the Grand Final will determine whether the story of this tournament will be the tale of an undefeated champion's reign, or the tale of a newcomer making the impossible possible. If the mystery of ANTGAMER's fall remains unsolved, that story will remain an incomplete chapter.
