The revolutionary Team Lotus Type 78 was the car which started the “ground effect” revolution in F1 racing. Its wedge-shaped body featured side pods with down-force-generating venturi profiles which considerably improved handling by increasing grip to enable harder and faster cornering. The 1977 season saw the car make its debut at the Argentina GP with drivers Mario Andretti and Gunner Nilsson behind the wheel. Andretti went on to win the U.S. West, Spanish, French, and Italian GPs and Nilsson Gunner also took victory at the Belgian GP.
